This small shrub grows to about 3 metres and is relatively uncommon in the reserve. It is a pioneer species and is starting to appear in some of the cleared areas. This plant is monoecious with separate male and female flowers on the same plant. The photo shows the flowers at each leaf axil. The bright red fruit turn black when ripe. (February 2008)
