This brilliant red dragonfly is common in the Brisbane area. The male shown here has red eyes, a red thorax and a red abdomen without any markings. The female is pale yellow with black markings on the abdomen. It was hunting and frequently returned to perch on the same Juncus usitatus plant in the main drainage gully.
