Dichondra repens

Dichondra repensFamily: Convolvulaceae
Genus: Dichondra
Common names: Kidney weed
ALA reference

Seeds of this native species have been sold extensively as a substitute for grass in lawns and it can now be found growing in most gardens. What I find interesting about the plants that have appeared in the cleared areas of the reserve is that the leaves are a deep green and quite hairy. The plants normally found in lawns are greenish yellow and almost glabrous. I suspect that the plants in the reserve are a form indigenous to the area rather than the form found in lawn seed.
