Gymnostachys anceps

Posted on Updated on

Gymnostachys ancepsFamily: Araceae
Genus: Gymnostachys
Common names: Settlers twine, Settlers flax
ALA reference

There are about a dozen plants of this species scattered along the north-eastern part of the Reserve. They seem to flower almost continuously on tall thin erect flower spikes. The rather strange flowers, that I think resemble those of Anthuriums, rarely seem to set any fruit. However on this plant there are about fifteen to twenty purple-black ripe fruit and about the same number of immature fruit. (March 2012)
