Histiopteris incisaFamily: Dennstaedtiaceae
Genus: Histiopteris
Common names: Bat’s Wing Fern, Oak Fern
ALA reference

This fern has appeared recently on the edge of what we believe was the old dam site. It is a soft fern with fronds growing to 2 metres from a long-creeping rhizome. It prefers cool moist gullies which is exactly the situation in which it is growing here. The common name is derived from the bat’s wing or butterfly appearance of the lowest pair of “leaflets” on the secondary rachis. (June 2011)
