Paralysis Tick

Paralysis tickGenus: Ixodes
Species: Ixodes holocyclus
Common names: Australian Paralysis Tick
ALA reference

In my July Notes I warned of the increasing numbers of paralysis ticks in the reserve. In the past month I’ve removed at least a score of these ticks from my body. They always seem to attack sensitive areas and are quite painful leaving an itchy red lump. If the tick in the photograph looks nice and clean that is because it has been through a full wash cycle in the washing machine. We found it wandering on the clean clothes on the line. They are really tough and very difficult to kill.
