Lobelia membranacea

Lobelia membranaceaFamily: Campanulaceae
Genus: Lobelia
Common names: Forest violet
ALA reference

After an absence of many years this delightful little ground hugging herb recently reappeared in our lawn following renovation work. Note how both the leaf and flower shape resemble the related species Lobelia purpurascens. This latter species has now spread quite widely through the restoration areas in the reserve. From this evidence it appears that Lobelia membranaceae would have been present in the reserve before it was overrun by weeds. I have now transplanted a small patch of this species from our lawn into the Reserve. (March 2012)
