Species: Neochmia (Aegintha) temporalis
Common names: Red-browed Firetail
This is a bird I’ve seen only rarely in the reserve. Like all finches it feeds on grass seeds and likes to live in grassy areas where thick cover is available nearby. I suspect that when we have completed the restoration of the reserve this bird will mainly be found on the northern slopes of the ridge beside the Brisbane River. This pair was in thick lantana beside the Southern firetrail. Pairs bond for life and they certainly seem to be in a cosy loving relationship in the photo.
