Ever since we have lived here we have often heard the distinctive “mopoke” call of the Boobook owl in the middle of the night. A pair of Boobook owls can often be seen just after dark hunting from the powerlines at the bottom of Blackheath Road. However until last Saturday I had never seen one in daylight. I was somewhat startled when three large birds took off from a tree just above my head and then settled again just 15 metres in front of me. Imagine my delight to discover they were Boobook Owls. They stayed for about 5 minutes and then flew off a little further into the bush
