Species: Platycercus (Violania) adscitus
Common names: Pale-headed Rosella
For the last couple of weeks I’ve been studying a pair of Pale-headed rosellas. They seem to be preparing to breed and I’ve watched a couple of courting displays. They have visited several possible nesting sites but the one shown here in an old dead gum tree is probably the preferred one. However only time will tell.
What this exercise has demonstrated to me is that there are considerably more potential parrot nesting sites in the bushland than I had previously thought. It is possible that these have only become available as the heavy infestation of cat’s claw creepers has fallen from the trees.
