Species: Rhipidura fuliginosa
Common names: Grey Fantail
I don’t think I have been for a walk in the Reserve without seeing and hearing the grey fantail. This little bird does aerial gymnastics with its fanned tail in pursuit of insects. It is quite inquisitive and will often approach to within a metre or two. It can also frequently be found accompanying other little birds. I assume it is expecting the other birds to stir up some insects for it.
This little bird is highly active, flitting about to catch insects and fanning its tail constantly. It can often be seen quite close to where we are working in the bush hoping to catch insects that we have disturbed.
