Genus: Zieria
Common names: Sandfly Zieria, Smithian Zieria, Dr Smith’s Zieria
ALA reference

About half a dozen of these small evergreen shrubs have come up in the Reserve where the cat’s claw creeper has been removed. They grow to about 2 metres in height and the oily leaves produce a pungent smell when crushed. The small flowers are carried in clusters of up to 60 flowers in the leaf axils. The common name, Sandfly Zieria, is derived from the oily nature of the crushed leaves that are reputed to provide an excellent insect repellant against sandflies and mosquitoes. (March 2009)
